Sending-Off Ceremony For MALCON WEST 1


MALAYSIA, Saturday 25 October 2008 – Five personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces embedded in the Malaysian Military Forces were among 171 out of 225 Malcon West members leaving for Lebanon today together with the Malaysian Military Forces to replace Qatar servicemen under the United Nations Interim Force (Unifil) in Lebanon. This is the first time Brunei soldiers have participated in Malaysian Military Forces peacekeeping mission under the United Nations (UN) banner.

The guest of honour during the official sending-off ceremony at Subang Air Base in Kuala Lumpur was YB Datuk Wira Abu Seman bin Hj Yusop, Deputy Minister of Defence Malaysia. Representing the Ministry of Defence Brunei was The Deputy Minister Defence, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar. YB Datuk Wira Abu Seman in his speech expressed appreciation to the Government of His Majesty of Brunei Darussalam for again trusting Malaysia in embedding its personnel. This practice he said could generate inspiration for an ASEAN composite contingent.
